Microsoft Project & Visio

Microsoft Project and Visio is available through Azure Education, a Microsoft program that provides eligible students with free access to selected academic software, developer tools, and learning resources.

The download and installation instructions are the same for both Visio and Project.

Create an Azure Education Account​

  • Go to: https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools
  • Sign in using your school email address.
  • Enter your VMI credentials
  • Verify your academic status by entering the required fields.
  • Create your profile by entering the required fields
    • It may ask to verify your address, verify the address then click Use this address.
  • Verify your profile information is correct.
  • Click Next at Protect your Account.
  • Click Next at Let's keep your account secure.
  • Click Set up a different way to sign in at the Install Microsoft Authenticator screen.
  • You must select an authentication method.
    • Choose the authentication method you would like to use.
  • After completing verification, you will be taken to the Education Hub.

Access the Education Hub, Download, Installation​

Download​

  • Under Free Software click Explore all
  • Search for the following products you need:
    • Visio Professional 2021
    • Project Professional 2021
  • Copy the product key shown on the page and save it for activation.
  • Click Download to download the ISO file.

Installation​

  • After downloading the ISO file, locate it in your Downloads folder.
  • Right‑click the ISO file and select Mount.
  • A new virtual DVD drive will appear in File Explorer.
  • Open the mounted drive and run setup.exe.
  • Follow the installation prompts.
  • After installation, open Visio or Project.
  • Go to File > Account > Change Product Key.
  • Enter the product key you copied from the Education Hub.
  • Activation should complete automatically.

NOTE You may get a popup that states you need to restart Visio or Project. If you do restart Visio or Project
