Mapping Network M Drive

Reminder

You must be connected to the domain (hardwired with ethernet cord or connected to EDU-ROAM wifi) to be able to map your network drive. Instructions to Connect to EDU-ROAM WiFi

Instructions for Windows 11

1. Open File Explorer

  • Press Windows + E or click the folder icon on the taskbar.

2. Go to "This PC"

  • In the left sidebar, click This PC or My Computer.

3. Launch the Map Network Drive Wizard

  • At the top, click the three-dot menu (...) in the toolbar.
  • Select Map network drive from the dropdown.

4. Choose a Drive Letter

  • Pick an unused drive letter from the dropdown (e.g., Z: or M:).

5. Enter the Network Folder Path

  • Type the full network path in \\fileservices\cadets\username (username is the first part of your email, eg smithaa29@vmi.edu. In this example your username would be smithaa29)

6. Configure Optional Settings

  • SELECT Reconnect at sign-in to persist across reboots.
  • DESELECT Connect using different credentials

7. Finish

  • Click Finish.
  • The mapped drive will now appear under This PC in File Explorer.
Instructions for Windows 10

1. Open File Explorer

  • Press Windows + E or click the folder icon on the taskbar.

2. Access the "Map Network Drive" Tool

  • In the left sidebar, click This PC or My Computer.
  • At the top, click the Computer tab (or View tab if collapsed).
  • Click Map network drive.

3. Choose a Drive Letter

  • From the dropdown, select an unused drive letter (e.g., Z: or M:).

4. Enter the Folder Path

  • Type the full network path in \\fileservices\cadets\username (username is the first part of your email, eg smithaa29@vmi.edu. In this example your username would be smithaa29)

5. Optional Settings

  • SELECT Reconnect at sign-in to persist across reboots.
  • DESELECT Connect using different credentials if needed

6. Finish

  • Click Finish.
  • The mapped drive should now appear under This PC in File Explorer.
Instructions for Mac macOS

1. Select Go

  • From the top menu bar in Finder, click Go.

2. Select Connect to Server

  • Choose Connect to Server from the dropdown menu.

3. Enter the Server Address

  • In the Server Address bar, type: smb://fileservices/cadets/username (username is the first part of your email, eg smithaa29@vmi.edu. In this example your username would be smithaa29)

4. Add to Favorite Servers

  • Click the + button to save the address to your Favorite Servers list.

5. Choose the Share

  • From the Favorite Servers section, select the share you want to connect to.

6. Select Connect

  • Click Connect to initiate the connection.

7. Enter Login Credentials

  • When prompted, enter your VMI network credentials:
  • Username: vmi\yourusername
  • Password: Your VMI network password
